In Pré-Saint-Gervais (Seine-Saint-Denis), at least 800 tenant households in social housing no longer have home insurance. In question, the increase in prices, which would have made it unaffordable according to a recent survey. In this town of 17,000 inhabitants, 40% of the population lives in social housing. However, this insurance is compulsory for tenants and offenders are liable to eviction.

To try to solve the problem, the town hall of Pré-Saint-Gervais has just announced the launch of a municipal housing insurance. The city will not insure its inhabitants directly, but it has negotiated advantageous rates with an operator, thanks to the group order. It also encourages its inhabitants to subscribe to it, which amounts to free publicity for the insurer. The practice is modeled on the model of the municipal health mutual, already set up in 2021.
