And it only took a few days for a police union to express their displeasure at this fresco. Indeed, the police union Alliance 93 is alarmed, via social networks, of the sentence that was inscribed above the fresco: “against racism and police violence”.

Two calls to rally in front of the fresco

The union then calls for a demonstration Monday, June 22, 2020, at 4 p.m. in front of the fresco. The police are asking that the sentence be repainted or deleted.

Assa Traoré, sister of Adama Traoré, who was present at the inauguration of the fresco only waited a few minutes to respond to the police union via her Twitter account.

The action of the police union Alliance 93, which calls for the repainting of the wall where my brother Adama is represented, is an infamous and insulting gesture. To erase my brother, to cover his face, is to deny his existence, which was already far too short, and to smear those of all those who died like him, too soon, in the hands of the police. To repaint my brother’s face and smile is to trample on his memory, to offend my family, to erase his name which is also mine, that of our brothers and sisters, that of our children. “

The mayor fears these gatherings

Assa Traoré calls also at the gathering in front of this fresco, at the same time ”for“ against union Alliance ”.

It is not the only one to have reacted to the request of the police union, the mayor of Stains, Azzédine Taïbi immediately communicated on the situation. “This fresco is an artistic and pacifist expression, in support and homage to all the victims of injustice”, declares the mayor. “In Stains, we have always favored dialogue and the link between the police and the inhabitants. However, we will not stop denouncing the inadmissible behavior of certain police officers who exceed their rights and unworthily use their position to express their racism and their contempt for the inhabitants of lower-income neighborhoods. ”

This call to rally is a threat to public order that I cannot tolerate. “

These are therefore many fears that the mayor of Stains explains in his press release.
