The decontamination work of the EIF plant in Montreuil (Seine-Saint-Denis), owned by the Etablissement Public Foncier d’Île-de-France (EPFIF), were due to start this fall.
But, even though the pollution contained in the soil, the water table and in the ambient air of buildings are known and considered incompatible with use of the site, the plant has been illegally occupied since September 15, 2020.
Deportation proceedings in progress
As the expulsion procedure initiated by EPFIF is still under investigation, the City of Montreuil, noting the deterioration of the situation inside and outside the factory, has decided to lodge a complaint for endangering the life of others, before bringing this situation to the attention of the public prosecutor on the basis of article 40 of the code of criminal procedure, according to which any authority having knowledge of a crime or an offense is required to notify Justice.
For Gaylord le Chéquer, first deputy mayor, in charge of the preservation of the Murs à Pêches site: “This occupation is harmful for the natural and heritage site of Murs-à-Pêches, because it prevents any implementation of pollution control. of the site. Chlorinated solvents (benzene and trichlorethylene in particular) and hydrocarbons therefore continue to spread in the soil and the Gobétue river, even as the City is taking actions to preserve the health of local residents and strengthen the site’s biodiversity and natural potential. “
