Each year the Children’s Book and Press Fair from Seine-Saint-Denis award them Nuggets of children’s literature, Covid-19 or not. Gathered by videoconference, the juries designated, Wednesday, December 2, 2020, for each category, their favorite title.
A Gold Nugget is appointed by a jury made up of literary critics. Four juries, made up of 38 children and adolescents in total, nominated the winners in the categories “illustrated book”, “teenage fiction”, “junior fiction” and “comic strip”.
Gold Nugget 2020
This year, ABC of nature by Bernadette Gervais was crowned Gold Pépite. ABC of nature is presented as “a magnificent large format alphabet book. Ideal for the youngest, for learning the alphabet and discovering the beauties of nature. “
Nugget 2020 from the illustrated book
Jurassic Caramel, Roxane Lumeret won the picture book award. The album follows the adventures of an ostrich who knows nothing of its origins, has never known anything but life at the zoo and who one day manages to escape.
2020 nugget of teen fiction
The Teen Fiction Nugget 2020 goes to the novel I saw Sisyphus happy by Katerina Apostolopoulou. “It is not the heroes of the Homeric battles that Katerina Apostolopoulou sings in this first collection written in two languages, Greek and French, but the courage of beings who place hospitality and freedom above all else, who fight with the arms of love and dignity, which have little but give everything, ”describes publisher Bruno Doucey.
Junior Fiction 2020 Nugget
For junior fiction, Carmine (volume 1), The Boy with the Hooffoot, Amélie Sarn was rewarded. The album follows the adventures of Carmin, an orphan and endowed with a hoof in place of the right foot.
Comic Book Nugget 2020
And finally, the 2020 Nugget from the comic book is awarded to Ama: The Breath of Women, by Franck Manguin and Cécile Becq. The album plunges the reader into the early 1960s. It follows the adventures of Nagisa, a young Japanese woman who leaves Tokyo and goes to a small remote fishing island. She is adopted by the Ama, rough, strong and wild “women of the sea” who snorkel, naked, to fish for shells.
