The neighbors only listened to their courage. Of them thieves were stopped in their burglary at Epinay-sur-Seine (Seine-Saint-Denis) thanks to neighborhood action. They were judged, Tuesday, December 8, 2021 at tribunal de Bobigny for “attempted robbery” and “carrying a category B weapon”, in this case a kitchen knife.
Stopped by neighbors
The facts date back to Friday, December 3, 2021. On that day, two men, one aged 27 and the other 35, entered an apartment on the eighth floor of a building to steal goods. As they were preparing to leave the apartment, enriched with a bottle of Yves Saint-Laurent perfume, a computer or even cartons of cigarettes, four neighbors intervened and blocked the door with sticks.
Far from letting it go, one of the two thugs returned to the kitchen to grab a knife. This is when the police, alerted, intervened. When the police arrived, the defendant dropped his weapon.
six months in jail
Their defense in court is unconvincing. “We were looking for a place to sleep”, they try to justify softly. However, the 35-year-old man has accommodation in Paris which he occupies with his partner and his five-month-old son. Conversely, they have already been convicted of theft and carrying a weapon.
They are found guilty. The 35-year-old man is sentenced to six months suspended sentence and the ban on carrying weapons. His accomplice bails him out six months in prison with continued detention.
