Employees of the Grandpuits refinery (Seine-et-Marne), whom Total a decided to convert, voted on Wednesday a new strike and the stopping of fuel shipments for 48 hours, we learned from the CGT. “Not a drop of fuel will be released between Thursday 6 am and Saturday 6 am”, “We are calling for discussions on employment within the framework of the PSE” (job protection plan), declared Adrien Cornet, CGT delegate (majority).
“Following the call for a 48-hour strike, voted by the CGT FO and the CFDT, Total indicated on Wednesday evening, shipments of products from the Grandpuits refinery could be disrupted, but Total will continue to ensure supplies for its service station network and its customers ”.
Fuel shipments had already been blocked on October 13 by a work stoppage led by an inter-union.
Total announced in September that refining at Grandpuits would cease “End of 2023”. It must give way to a conversion project focused on the production of biofuels and bioplastics, and the operation of two solar photovoltaic plants, according to the oil giant.
With a budget of 500 million euros, this redeployment will not lead to any layoffs but to early retirement and internal mobility to other sites, Total said.
The group had ensured that 250 positions out of the 400 that the Grandpuits platform and the associated depot of Gargenville (Yvelines) today would be maintained.
A scenario that the unions do not believe, who fear the suppression of “700 direct and indirect jobs” and claim “Meetings to be able to discuss employment”.
“Total refuses to discuss this figure of 250 positions, but that will not be enough, there will be huge holes in the organization chart, which will not allow security and maintenance to be ensured” site, says Adrien Cornet.
A new general assembly is to be held next Tuesday to decide on the follow-up to the movement, said the CGT.
