Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard brought so many bombs to the gaming industry that it’s even hard to count so many gems. One of the most recent was when the Jim RyanCEO of Sony, stated that Xbox Game Pass has the destructive power of the value of the games and that all publishers hate the serviceo.
Ryan, speaking in prerecorded video testimony, stated that other publishers “unanimously dislike Game Pass” for this reason. When pressed by Microsoft’s lawyer, he added: “I talk to publishers all the time, and this has been a very common view for many years by publishers.”
Since this comment, several publishers have already declared support for Microsoft and Xbox Game Pass, and now it was Sega’s turn, more specifically, Miles Jacobson, studio head of Sports Interactive, developer of the popular Football Manager.
“Each studio will have different opinions on this,” explained Jacobson, “and different studios will have different data, because different games work well in different situations. For us, this is positive on all three platforms.
“We run a pretty tight ship,” he continued, “and I like that our studio is profitable – Sega made a big bet on us all those years ago, and their shareholders – oddly enough – should be rewarded. that’s why. Therefore, we don’t tend to make bad deals for any part of the business.”
As such, Jacobson cites subscription services as having a big impact on Football Manager’s reach. “With the success of our releases on Game Pass for Xbox and PCthis year we brought back Football Manager Touch for Apple Arcade and launched FM23 Console on PlayStation 5, both exceeding our expectations,” he wrote on the blog.
Football Manager reached two million players a year on these platforms, and after the services were added, it reached 4.8 million, and continues to grow, according to Sports Interactive.
“The simple fact is that the Game Pass and Apple Arcade brought new people for the franchise they’ve never played before,” Jacobson told Eurogamer. “I’m confident enough in our games to believe that we’re now going to have these consumers for a long time, whatever platforms we’re on. Fiscally, it makes sense. Creatively, it makes sense.
Apparently, Sega is very happy with Xbox Game Pass, after all it’s been years of good relationship and even the Persona saga is coming directly to the service! Not to mention the Yakuza, which is always seen there.
