The Japanese game company, Sega, announced on Monday, April 17, that it had submitted an offer of 706 million euros, equivalent to $ 776 million, to the Finnish company Rovio Entertainment, maker of the famous “Angry Birds” game.
Sega said the deal would be for the entirety of Rovio’s outstanding shares and options, valuing it at €9.25 per share, roughly 19% of its closing price before the announcement.
The company added that Rovio’s board of directors supports the bid.
Rovio games have been downloaded more than 5 billion times, according to the statement on Monday, and Rovio shares rose 17.88% after the offer was announced.
