SEGA is reviving five franchises during TGA

During this year’s Game Awards, trailers rained down as usual. One of them was a brand new quintet of SEGA games now in the works. It is about a revival of five old franchises: Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi and Streets of Rage. This quintet will be recreated for a modern audience.

The projects are in different parts of their development phases and we therefore do not have a sensible release frame yet. More information is promised in the future.

It’s a shame neither Phantasy Star, Out Run or Fantasy Zone is on the list, but this is still good news! Latest Crazy Taxi– part is from 2017 and on mobiles, while we haven’t heard a word from Golden Axe since 2020’s somewhat controversial and half-finished Golden Axed. Jet Set Radio (Jet Grind Radio) was last seen on the Game Boy Advance in 2003, and also Shinobi was presumed stone dead after the 2011 namesake on the Nintendo 3DS. Well, this minus any new releases like that SEGA AGES Shinobi then. Streets of Rage lives and thrives, however, thanks to Seaven Studio and DotEmu.

SEGA has long talked about bringing old franchises to life, especially on social media such as Facebook and Twitter (X). However, this is the first concrete evidence that something is actually happening behind the scenes. Now we’re just waiting for gameplay!
