Sega Announces Plans for Sonic Remakes and Reboots

The US game media reported on the 16th (local time) that Sega Chief Operating Officer (COO) President Yukio Sugino announced plans to release various Sonic remakes and reboot titles in the future.

According to foreign media, President Sugino said in an interview with Japanese game media Famisu, “We will each use a strategy suitable for intellectual property rights (IP),” adding, “Sonic has been set as Sega’s flagship IP, We will consider releasing remakes and reboots.”

President Sugino said, “Sonic Frontier was released in 2022, and this title recorded more sales than originally planned. In particular, it received a very good response from North American users.” ‘Hedgehog 2’ raised about 5.7 million yen (about 521.4 billion won) in worldwide box office revenue, and through this, we were able to unveil Sonic Frontier,” he explained.

Sega plans to release Sonic Superstars this fall. This work is a side-scrolling platformer game for 4 players being developed by Azest Studio, run by Naoto Oshima, who designed Sonic and Dr. Eggman.

The company previously released information about Sonic Superstars at Summer Game Fest 2023 held last month. Sonic Superstars will be released on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5 Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch.
