The coordinator of the National Coordination Team (NCT), Javier Asin, commented on the photos of during the COVID-19 press conference on Thursday COVID corpses in a container on the grounds of the Wanica Regional Hospital (RZW). The images were shared by NDP assembly member Melvin Bouva on Thursday.
Asin detests the images and has made it clear in no uncertain terms that he finds this particularly tasteless. “I ask that it no longer happens… that with images of corpses people try to win souls and try to get political gain. It is not…not…not permissible”, according to the NCT coordinator who probably refers to Bouva’s action.
He says that work was taking place at the time the photos were taken and speaks of a snapshot. According to him, no goal justifies dealing with people’s suffering in this way.
“It is unbelievable what is happening there, we are a small community, you can see where that container is and where it is.” According to the official, it is not difficult for those involved to find out that one of their loved ones is probably there. “I don’t understand how that doesn’t stop you from revealing it. It’s an abnormal situation, I agree,” he continues.
According to the coordinator, this abnormal situation arises because more people die every day than can be cremated. Asin: “It is an abnormal situation that we are dealing with. We pretend it’s politics. It is because too many people are still exposed to the virus, even though they are not vaccinated.”
He states that for the majority of people who die in this way, it was avoidable. “The majority of people in intensive care also say that they regret it,” Asin refers to the choice not to vaccinate. He calls on society to prevent this. “It is not that it happens to everyone who gets COVID-19, but it does happen to a large group, 1 in 7 and that is a lot.”
Asin is very displeased with what he calls misinformation and deception via social media. He notes that this continues to endanger public health. “There are platforms and individuals who invariably use misinformation and deception to hold the population hostage.” According to the coordinator, the only way to eventually move towards the new normal is by eliminating certain risks and vaccination is an important part of that.
He says there is a very unfair relationship between the people who have to give information to the community according to the official channels and people who do so in a low, uncontrolled and unpunished manner via social media. “I think it should stop at some point. Willfully endangering public health should not go unpunished,” said Asin.
The hospital also responded on Thursday and shares in the outrage about the distribution of images of the remains of some deceased and expresses sympathy for the displeasure that the recording and distribution of those images by unauthorized third parties has caused to loved ones.
In a press release, the hospital said: “The painful details of the unauthorized and sensationally disseminated photos are a snapshot of a protocol for maintenance work on the racks for the storage of the deceased. The responsible funeral company has been robbed by being secretly photographed, presumably during or around a time of transport and/or cleaning work. The organizations and individuals involved are all affected by the way in which this snapshot has been presented to the general public.”
