Seeing the Solar Halo Phenomenon Happening Today, Like What? All pages

KOMPAS.com – The “Hello Sun“It was observed in several areas in East Java today, Sunday (9/27/2020) afternoon.

Several netizens participated in capturing the moment the rainbow ring phenomenon occurred or it was called Hello Sun and upload it on social media.

One of them is like the owner of a Twitter account @yosisuharno. He uploaded a photo of a rainbow ring, and also wrote a narrative in the upload.

“There is a natural phenomenon of Halo Sun in the sky Surabaya min. Good,” Twitter account @yosisuharno, Friday (27/9/2020) at 10.19 WIB.

Twitter account @WDewanthi also photographing the Solar Halo phenomenon and share it on his social media accounts.

“Is this called the Halo Solar phenomenon, min? It’s in bad luck,” wrote @WDewanthi.

Indonesian amateur astronomer Marufin Sudibyom confirmed that today, Sunday (27/9/2020) the Halo Sun phenomenon has occurred in several regions.

“Right (there the solar halo phenomenon). There are reports from East Java, Surabaya and surrounding areas, “said Marufin when contacted Kompas.com, Sunday (27/9/2020).

Marufin said, Halo Sun is not a celestial phenomenon, because it actually occurs in the Earth’s atmosphere.

Halo Sun, he continued, occurs because the refraction of sunlight by thin tall clouds called Cirrus clouds.

“Especially if the cloud contains micro ice grains with a hexagonal plate structure,” said Marufin.

The formation process is similar to a rainbow

Marufin explained, the process of forming Halo Matahari resembles the formation of a rainbow.

During the formation of the rainbow, the position of the Sun is behind us. Meanwhile, raindrops are in front of us.

The rays of the sun are then refracted by the raindrops, then they are reflected perfectly so that the direction is the opposite of the direction of the sun’s light.

The process finally forms a semicircular arc of light equipped with a rainbow color component.

Meanwhile, in Halo Matahari, the cloud and the Sun are in front of us. Sunlight refracted by icicles in clouds without being reflected again.

“The rays from refraction appear as a circle of white light (if the cloud is very thin) or even a circle of rainbow light (if the cloud is a little thicker). The center of the circle coincides with the position of the Sun and the diameter of the circle is 22 degrees,” said Marufin.

The length of time the solar Halo phenomenon occurs

Marufin said, Halo Matahari often forms in areas that are shaded by Cirrus clouds.

Meanwhile, the position of the local Sun is around its upper culmination point.

Simply put, continued Marufin, Hello Sun is often seen at Zuhr.

The duration of the sight of a solar halo depends on the position of the sun and the dynamics of the Cirrus cloud itself.

“Some take hours, some are brief,” said Marufin.

Meanwhile, researchers from the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space Science Center (Lapan) Andi Pangerang said that the Halo Matahari phenomenon does not only occur during the day.

Hello can also happen during the full moon.

However, the solar halo phenomenon like what happened today, said Andi, did not occur in all regions.

“Regarding Halo Matahari, actually not all regions can experience it,” said Andi.

Andi also said that the Halo Sun phenomenon during the day will not last long or only take a dozen minutes.

“This is because the atmospheric pressure is lower around it so the temperature is getting warmer,” said Andi.

Meanwhile, hello at night can last quite a long time, reaching up to 3 hours.

This can happen long enough due to higher atmospheric pressure so that the temperature becomes cooler.
