New York has a new park richer. And what kind! Designer Thomas Heatherwick conceived a park in the form of an island on stilts in the Hudson.

Little Island Park is the very appropriate name for this new hotspot in the city. The park/island is almost 10,000 square meters and is built on a unique construction, which consists of 132 piles that stand at the bottom of the river. Little Island Park is therefore no ordinary island, but one that seems to float above the water.

The park is connected to the mainland by two bridges, at the southern terminus of The High Line in Chelsea on the west side of Manhattan. The island is home to some 540 meters of hiking trails, as well as a number of lookout points and an amphitheater overlooking the water.

Because not all columns are the same height, the landscape architects of MNLA landscaped park playful and adventurous. With 100 different types of trees and 400 types of plants, the designers created a park with a diverse appearance. The piles under the island not only provide a striking appearance, but also provide a unique habitat for underwater life.
