See the first three-dimensionally printed house in the Czech Republic. It’s called Element

Inside, the house consists of a main living room with a kitchen, a bedroom on the right and a bathroom with a shower and toilet on the left. Altogether, the ground floor house has an area of 43 square meters.

“The house is made up of three segments, plus the roof as the fourth segment, it’s such a jigsaw puzzle,” Michal Trpák told Novinky.

At first glance, you will know that Trpák domu has imprinted a piece of his sculptural soul. Although the habitable Element was printed artificially, everything inside looks organic. “Because I am an artist and a sculptor, the house has no right angle. It’s all organic. It has different curves, “he added, adding that he perceives Protozoa more as a residential statue than a house.

“The robot layers concrete noodles on itself and builds a shell of the house, which is double-skinned,” Trpák mentioned, adding that the whole house was printed in about 32 hours. “Some 15 tons of material fell on it,” he added. The roof and wiring were then finished by hand.

Printed walls and their layers are clearly visible in the interior of the house.

Designers Kateřina Nováková and Jiří Vele collaborated on the design with Trpák. According to Trpák, the house passed pressure tests at the Czech Technical University in Prague.

“The result was a high load-bearing capacity, even under a 50-ton load, the house did not move,” he said earlier in interview for the daily Právo.

The first three-dimensionally printed house is moored at Střelecký Island in Prague.

Trpák has been holding the idea of creating buildings using 3D printing in his head for several years, three years ago he designed an extension of a dental office in České Budějovice. However, the project failed to materialize at that time.

Element introduced himself to the public for the first time on Tuesday. According to Trpák, it will be on Střelecký Island for about two months.

“I call it an exhibition statue. It is a statue that can be entered, viewed and even spent the night there. After that, the house should be offered for rent, “he said. But it is a prototype. In the future, Trpák would like to sell similar houses, the price should be around 4-5 million crowns.

3D printing technology originated in the 80’s, the first houses made using 3D printing began to emerge only in the last decade. For example, in Dubai in 2016, the first office building was built in this way.

Technical points of interest

  • The building is located on a pontoon, so it can be moved on water. Thus, after being assembled at the docks in Prague’s Holešovice, the authors also transported it to the shores of Střelecký Island.
  • The three-dimensionally printed skeleton is double-skinned. Holes were prepared in the upper layers enabling the settlement of the roof, which is a clean wooden building.
  • The house can be controlled using a smart system via an application to which it is connected, for example, air conditioning, underfloor heating, lights, etc.
  • Thanks to the layering and fine coloring, the walls of the Protozoa are very reminiscent of the structure of wrinkled rock formations, which are covered with greenery. The element has a green roof, which merges into a vertical garden in the front and back, which enhances the natural impression even more.
  • The whole building is insulated, the authors used foam approaching its polyurethane composition.
  • The recirculation shower is equipped with a system that allows up to 90% water recycling. It is equipped with a set of sensors that check the purity of the outflowing water 20 times per second. The one that is clean is returned to the circulation, but first it is further purified and reheated.
  • Some wooden elements, such as the bathroom countertop carrying the washbasin, are made of subfossil oak, which dates back to the beginning of the end of the Ice Age.
  • In Prvok, it is possible to notice the audio system, whose snail-shaped speakers are also printed in three dimensions, but this time from sand.
