Some early risers in the Northern Hemisphere may have been fortunate enough to see a rare eclipsed sunrise known as the “Ring of Fire” on Thursday morning.

Sky watchers from New York to parts of Asia may have seen the partial or ring-shaped eclipse of the sun.

The eclipse began in Ontario, Canada, at sunrise and ended in southeastern Siberia. The “ring of fire” lasted for about an hour and 40 minutes and was only partially seen by the Americans.

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves between the sun and the earth, partially or fully blocking sunlight. During an annular or partial eclipse, parts of the sunlight can be seen and illuminate a ring of light or “ring of fire”.

The “Ring of Fire” solar eclipse comes 15 days after the super flower blood moon which was visible for about 15 minutes in parts of the western United States. The next total eclipse in the United States will be on April 8, 2024 and could be seen in cities like Dallas and New York.
