The iconic actor was set to present the final and most important Oscar statuette during the night’s gala. But he forgot one essential thing…
The choice of the person who will present and award the Oscar statuette for Best Film often goes to a prestigious and honorable name. In this case, the acting legend Al Pacino, who himself has an Oscar for “A Woman’s Scent” (1992). But he is also old – 83 years – and that may have been a reason for a minor mistake in the distribution.
It is traditional, as in the awarding of all awards, to name the nominated films before opening the envelope with the winner’s name. But Pacino went right to the envelope, opened it and read:
– My eyes see ”Oppenheimer”.
This possibly robs some of the excitement in the process as well as the films’ chance to be named one last time before the end of the gala. On the other hand, Christopher Nolan’s film as the winner was hardly a surprise and it’s nowhere near as bad as when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway called out the wrong winner in 2017.
The reactions on Twitter were not to be expected, pointing out the chaotic and nonchalant nature of the actor’s “presentation”:
