See Again Jokowi’s Statement, Angry Over the Case of Hedon Ministry of Finance Officials

Jakarta

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was furious about the case treasure show and the luxurious lifestyle that is currently happening in the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu). The number one person in Indonesia asked that no more similar incidents be carried out by all servants of the state or civil servants.

Jokowi is also following the current case Rafael Alun Trisambodo in the Directorate General of Taxes and cases Eko Darmanto at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance. These two cases went viral on social media related to their wealth and became public consumption.

“From the comments I have read both on the ground and on social media, because of the events at the (Directorate General) of Taxes and Customs, I know very well that the public is disappointed with our officials and the government,” Jokowi said in a Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, Thursday (2/3/2023).

Jokowi understands very well if the people are disappointed. The reason is that public services are not good, plus there is a problem of showing off wealth which irritates the community.

Following is Jokowi’s full statement:

The essence of bureaucratic reform is that the people are served effectively and accountably. From the comments I read both in the field and on social media, because of the events at the (Directorate General) of Taxes and Customs, I know very well that the public is disappointed with our apparatus, with the government.

Be careful not only the (Directorate General) of Tax and Customs affairs, there are the police and other law enforcement agencies, other bureaucracy. If that’s the case, yes, in my opinion, it’s appropriate for the people to be disappointed because their service is considered not good, then the officials behave arrogantly and show off their power, then show off their wealth, are hedonic.

Therefore, I ask all ministers and heads of institutions to discipline the apparatus under them, to tell them what cannot be done and what can be done. Then at the National Police as well as the Attorney General’s Office and other legal apparatus, fix it first inside then finish it and clean up other ministries/institutions.

Once again the emphasis is on us, on our subordinates, don’t show off your power, don’t show off your wealth, let alone posting it on Instagram, on social media, if the bureaucracy is very inappropriate.
