Suara.com – Sony have officially completed their acquisition of the streaming service platform anime, Crunchyroll. The service, which is known to provide a large collection of popular anime and manga, was officially purchased at a price of 1.175 billion US dollars or Rp. 16.9 trillion.
Through the Sony Pictures website, AT&T has officially divested Crunchyroll, closing the sale of the anime business to Sony’s Funimation group. It brings together two anime service industry competitors under the Sony-owned company.
For information, Funimation Global Group is a joint venture between Sony Pictures Entertainment and a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan), Aniplex.
The streaming service Crunchyroll has more than 5 million paid subscribers and 120 million registered users in more than 200 countries.

Funimation has not disclosed how many subscribers or users it has. The completion of Funimation’s acquisition of Crunchyroll enables both services “expand distribution for their content partners“.
According to Variety, the company has yet to reveal how they will merge Crunchyroll and Funimation. But for now the two services are still running separately or separately.
Through the company’s official website, Sony Group CEO Kenichiro Yoshida welcomed the completion of the Crunchyroll acquisition. He argues that anime is a rapidly growing medium and inspires emotions in audiences around the world.
