The Ministry of Health (SEDESA), through the Public Health Services of Mexico City, reported that, as part of the National Campaign for the Recovery of Vaccination Coverage against the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), from 22 From November 2022 to February 19, 2023, 92,700 biologicals have been applied to girls and women, that is, 77.08 percent of the inoculation goal, which is 120,260 doses.
Of the total number of vaccines, 92,003 have been for girls between the ages of 13 and 14 who are in high school, while 697 for cisgender and transgender women between the ages of 11 and 49 who live with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The SEDESA Public Health Services have applied 70 thousand 62 doses and the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), 22 thousand 638 units.
This vaccine is applied to female students in the first and second grade of public and private secondary schools who attend one of the 605 schools located in the 16 municipalities.
Cis and trans women between the ages of 11 and 49 living with HIV receive the vaccine, in its three-dose version, at the Comprehensive Health Unit for Trans Persons, located in the Miguel Hidalgo Mayor’s Office, as well as at the Condesa Clinics.
It should be noted that HPV is the most frequent sexually transmitted infection, which represents a risk to women’s health, since it is associated with the appearance of cervical cancer and, in most cases, does not cause visible symptoms that can alert the patient to the infection, up to several years later.
These characteristics make it essential that women have access to the means for a timely diagnosis, while making vaccination the best strategy to prevent infections.
