SEDESA Health Centers: Free Medical Care for Inhabitants of Mexico City

The Health Centers of the SEDESA network carry out prevention and health promotion actions to provide free care to more than 4 million inhabitants of Mexico City who do not have social security.
Among the services offered by these units from Monday to Sunday, even on holidays, are medical consultation, laboratory, X-ray studies, preventive dental check-up, vaccination and care in Salud en tu Vida modules.

In order to expand access to health services for the inhabitants of Mexico City, the Ministry of Health (SEDESA), through Public Health Services, reports that 229 Health Centers provide free medical services 365 days of the year, including holidays, which represents 98 percent of the 234 first-level units.

On November 11, the “Silvia Carrillo” IT Health Center of the Álvaro Obregón Health Jurisdiction was added to the units that provide care every day of the year, which formally began to provide service on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The Health Centers of the SEDESA network carry out prevention and health promotion actions to provide free care to more than 4 million inhabitants of Mexico City who do not have social security.

Among the services offered in these units are medical consultation, laboratory, X-ray studies, preventive dental check-up, vaccinations and free medications. Likewise, they have the Health in your Life modules, where they serve people with obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure problems.

The Health Centers are divided into three types: the TI, which can serve up to 6 thousand inhabitants without social security and has one or two offices, as well as an equal number of comprehensive care modules made up of a doctor, nurse and social worker, as well as as a pharmacy.

The T-II, which has the capacity to care for 9 to 18 thousand inhabitants, for which there are three to six offices with a director, administrator, epidemiologist, doctor, dentist, social work, nursing, as well as a statistician, and has with a comprehensive care module, stomatology, immunizations and cures, vaccinations, clinical archive and pharmacy, among others.

Finally, T-III, which may have under its responsibility up to 42 thousand people from the open population, with services such as T-II units and facilities with seven to 17 clinics, in addition to management and administration of the Epidemiology Services Unit. and laboratory.

It should be noted that at the beginning of the current administration, only 68 Health Centers opened their doors on weekends, but not on holidays. To date, 229 medical units work 365 days a year and only five from Monday to Friday: the “Impulso” Interactive Space for young people, the two units of the Condesa Specialized Clinic in the Cuauhtémoc mayor’s office and the Iztapalapa mayor’s office, the Dysplasias and the TI Peñón Viejo, in the Iztapalapa mayor’s office.

With these actions, SEDESA reaffirms its commitment to guaranteeing the right to health of the inhabitants of Mexico City.
