Elements of the National Guard and members of the Mexican Army seized more than two thousand cartridges, magazines, an assault rifle and other objects while conducting security patrols in the municipalities of Plutarco Elías Calles, Nogales and Caborca, in the state of Sonora.
The National Guard Spokesperson reported that in coordination with Mexican Army personnel, the cartridges and drugs were seized.
The first action was recorded in the municipality of Plutarco Elías Calles, where personnel from both institutions located an abandoned vehicle with two magazines and cartridges for a long weapon.
In a second patrol operation that was carried out in the Zona Industrial neighborhood of the municipality of Nogales, “a person, upon noticing the presence of the official units, fled the scene and threw a backpack with doses of possible narcotics to the ground.
“The third incident was reported in the municipality of Caborca, where officers located a rifle, cartridges and magazines inside a black backpack on a dirt road; they also found an abandoned vehicle with war material.”
In total, 2,055 live cartridges of various calibers were seized; 26 magazines, an assault rifle; 770 doses of crystal, cocaine and marijuana.
The seized items were made available to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office.
