Libreville, Monday, May 29, 2023 (Gabon Info) – The Gabonese president discussed the subject on Friday during an audience granted to the special representative of the UN secretary general for Central Africa and head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA). “At the start of their exchange, the President of the Republic gave the floor to the UN diplomat who reported to the Gabonese Head of State on the visit he made to all the countries of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS). At the end of this tour, the UN diplomat told the Head of State that the security climate prevailing in the sub-region was relatively calm, with the exception of a few centers of crisis.

Mr. Abdou Barry then congratulated the President of the Gabonese Republic for his Roadmap presented on February 25, 2023 in Kinshasa, during his speech accepting the Mandate of President-in-Office of ECCAS, delivered on the occasion of the 22nd Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government.

He also congratulated the Head of State for his tireless efforts in favor of women’s rights and gender equality in Gabon, reaffirmed at the Conference of Ministers in charge of gender issues. du Genre which is held from May 25 to 27, 2023 in Libreville.

This Conference, which brings together a dozen Women Ministers from ECCAS countries and during which Mrs. Sylvia BONGO ONDIMBA, First Lady of Gabon made a speech to reiterate her plea in favor of Gender Equality, received the full support of the United Nations, the conclusions of which will be brought to the next Summit of Heads of State and Government of ECCAS, to be held on July 1, 2023 in Libreville.

It should be noted that within the framework of the Mandate of the President of the Gabonese Republic in his capacity as President-in-Office of ECCAS, the Women’s project is one of the four priority projects for our country.

Furthermore, the Head of Office of UNOCA praised and noted the virtuous dynamism of the President of the Republic for the implementation of a peaceful climate conducive to the serene organization of the next elections in Gabon.

Finally, the UN diplomat announced his imminent departure for the United States of America in order to present his report on the security issue within the ECCAS Member States to the UN Security Council”.
