– Many people walk around with a concern that something might happen. Not everyone dares to send their children to the mosque. Several want a confirmation that the mosques have implemented security measures to protect the members, says information manager Mustafa Mahmood at the Islamic Council of Norway (IRN) to Class struggles.

Tuesday, August 10, is two years ago Philip Manshaus shot himself into the Al Noor mosque in Bærum with the intention of killing as many Muslims as possible.

Since 2020, it has been possible to apply for a grant pot of NOK 5 million for physical security measures.

The police believe he is less than two hours ahead of the mosque attack, killed his sister Johanne Zhangjia Ihle-Hansen (17) in the family’s home on Eiksmarka.

Manshaus remained in court sentenced to 21 years in custody for the murder and assault.

Mahmood in IRN says that it is coincidence that determines whether the mosques receive information about grants.

This is one of the reasons why IRN will now send an open application to the Ministry of Justice asking for funds to create a position as a security adviser.

“By creating the position as security consultant, we want to cover these gaps in security,” he says.

Senior adviser Martin Bernsen in PST will not comment on the proposal for a security adviser, but he believes that PST has become better at describing the threat picture to the rest of the police.

– That was what we got criticism for after the attack, and there we work much better now. We withhold as little information as possible, he says.
