After large-scale reconstruction and landscaping works, the Grand Stage of Mežaparks has been opened to visitors, where security guards and video cameras will monitor the order, reports TV3 Ziņas.
The Mežaparks stage will house not only the Song Festival Museum, but also an exhibition hall, where the works of the artist Baiba Ābelīte will be available for viewing on September 2. Alongside them, a concert hall was opened, named in honor of the choir conductors – brothers Gido and Imants Kokari. Until now, the stage area was closed to visitors on a daily basis, but now it will change.

“The territory of Mežaparks stage, the Kokari hall on the first floor and the exhibition room will be available to people every day from 8.00 am to 20.00 in the evening. Of course, there may be some closed event, especially during the summer. ”

The “Northern Riga Cultural Association” will be responsible for cultural events on the stage, which plans to organize concerts, exhibitions, conferences and also private events in the new premises. The new premises are also equipped with various technologies, including allowing exhibitions to be viewed in 3D.

The first visitors of the stage did not hide their satisfaction with the opportunity to see the premises, but the idea of the availability of the territory every day was assessed with caution. Namely, people are worried that the restored object will be too tempting for vandals.
“I also doubted when I heard that it would be open. I do not think our audience is ready for that yet. So much work, so beautiful looks. Well I do not know. How many more years remained until the Song Festival. So what will we repair again? ” judged Stephen.
“It is very good that he will be able to visit every day, but it must be taken into account that he will be littered and will need some kind of brigade who will clean it anyway,” Edgars told TV3 News.
The leader of the North Riga Association hopes that people will be honest, but there will also be security measures.
