The Presidents discussed expectations from the NATO summit in Vilnius, further priority needs for the front, and also touched upon the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine.
“We understand the importance of the strong steps taken by the Alliance for Security Guarantees for Ukraine. Thank you for the powerful defense support from Poland. Thank you Andrzej for a strong and firm position,” Zelensky wrote.
Meeting of the heads of Poland, France and Germany
Tomorrow, June 12, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Polish President Andrzej Duda will hold a meeting in Paris in the Weimar Triangle format.
They are expected to discuss Russian aggression in Ukraine, as well as our country’s security guarantees ahead of the NATO summit in July.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Zelensky has previously said that Ukraine needs security guarantees from the West, which will be put on paper. This is necessary so that after some time the leaders of the allied countries do not refuse to help Ukraine in the war against Russia.
According to the former head of NATO, Anders Rasmussen, if Ukraine is not provided with real security guarantees at the Vilnius summit, then some countries (such as Poland or the Baltic countries) could theoretically send their troops to Ukraine to help in the war.
