Security forces at Hamburg Airport on strike on Tuesday

Travelers at Hamburg Airport have to be prepared for flight cancellations and delays on Tuesday. In the nationwide collective bargaining dispute of the security forces, the Verdi union is calling on employees in air passenger control and in personnel and goods control in Hamburg to go on a all-day warning strike. The airport company recommended that all travelers “find out about the status of their flight before arriving at the airport”.

The warning strikes are part of the wage conflict between Verdi and the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies (BDLS). The union is negotiating with the employers’ association about a new collective agreement for around 25,000 security forces nationwide, three rounds of negotiations had so far remained unsuccessful. Both sides want to meet on March 16th and 17th in Berlin for further negotiations.

Already on Monday there were warning strikes at the airports in Düsseldorf, Berlin, Bremen, Hanover and Leipzig. Along with Hamburg, the airports in Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden are to be on strike on Tuesday.
