Lebanon filed a complaint with the UN Security Council, on Saturday, calling for it to condemn Israel’s “aggression” on its territory, and to oblige it to stop violating its sovereignty.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned “the attacks carried out by Israel at dawn Friday on areas in southern Lebanon, which endangered the lives of civilians and the safety of Lebanese territory.”

And she added that Lebanon “filed a complaint addressed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on behalf of the Lebanese government to both the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the Security Council.”

In its complaint, the Foreign Ministry called for “condemning the Israeli aggression in the strongest terms, obliging Israel to stop its violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty by air, sea and land, stop its threats, and implement all its duties in accordance with International Resolution 1701,” according to the statement.

Resolution 1701, issued in the summer of 2006, provides for a “cessation of hostilities”, after a 33-day war between the “Hezbollah” group and the Israeli army, and one of the tasks of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon “UNIFIL” is to monitor the implementation of this resolution.
