A UN spokesman said Thursday in response to Russia’s allegations that the World Health Organization (WHO), a UN body, “is not aware of activities by the Ukrainian government that violate international treaties, in the field of chemical or biological weapons”.
‘As a precaution, destroy pathogens in Ukraine’
The WHO warned on Thursday evening that dangerous viruses or other pathogens may be released from Ukrainian laboratories as a result of the war. The WHO therefore advises the Ukrainian government to destroy dangerous pathogens as a precaution.
Like many other countries, Ukraine has laboratories studying infectious diseases, such as the recent covid-19. The WHO emphasizes that this concerns scientific research, in collaboration with the US, the European Union and the WHO itself.
