Districts use security services to protect citizen registration offices
Several districts of Berlin employ security services, among other things to protect their employees. Since 2020, the district of Mitte alone has been paying 670,000 euros per year for eleven people of a security company. According to the response of the internal administration, the security personnel prevent attacks on employees, ensure the safety of the facilities and control the flow of visitors to the buildings. “The experiences have been consistently positive,” said Neukölln district office spokesman Christian Berg, the “Tagesspiegel”. There is a security guard in each of Neukölln’s four citizen registration offices. The reason for this is verbal and physical attacks on employees.
Rogat said it was right for district offices to be protected by security personnel in order to prevent attacks on employees. “However, if you look at the costs, there are already considerable sums here,” criticized the FDP MP. The fact that six district offices did not provide any figures when requested does not testify to transparency.
