Security Alert: ISIS Threatens Champions League Stadiums – Highest Security Measures Activated

MADRID – Security forces in major European cities must be on special alert before Tuesday and Wednesday’s Champions League football matches. The terrorist organization Islamic State has published a poster on which four football stadiums, a terrorist with a machine gun and the inscription “Kill them all” are depicted.

The Spanish newspaper La Razón reported on this with reference to the Daesh terrorist server. The opening legs of the Champions League quarter-finals will be played at the Emirates Stadium in London and the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid on Tuesday. The Spanish capital will also be played on Wednesday at the Metropolitano stadium, and in addition, the match will also take place in Paris at the Parc des Princes.

The Spanish government responded to the threats by activating the highest security measures. In addition to the police, three thousand soldiers will be present at the matches. In Spain, the fourth level of anti-terror alert is currently declared.

Fans had to face a similar threat at the end of March at the match between German Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Sarh al-Khilafah media then published an image calling for attacks against people in the Allianz Arena. In the end, that didn’t happen.

Terrorist attack during the EURO 2024 qualification match

Fans still have a vivid memory of the terrorist attack from October last year, after which the football qualification match between Belgium and Sweden was not finished. During the shooting, two Sweden fans died in the wider center of Brussels, and fifty thousand spectators on the spot were instructed to stay in the stadium for safety reasons. Both shooting victims were wearing Sweden jerseys.
