Many young people are just beginning a new phase of life – they are starting an apprenticeship. The companies have been suffering from a chronic shortage of trainees for years. In a special edition of SWR1 Workplace, we look at how companies and trainees come together and what drives them at the start of the new training year.
Successful model Masonry trainees from Vietnam
The shortage of skilled workers makes things difficult for companies that are urgently looking for new trainees every year. It was the same for Otto Birk. He is a building contractor in the Ravensburg district and three years ago he simply couldn’t find an apprentice. That was the turning point for him. Birk dared an unusual attempt: He hired three trainees from Vietnam. In the meantime, they have completed their apprenticeship, and the trainee model from Vietnam has gone to school in the Ravensburg district. Wolfgang Brauer met the contractor and his ready-made journeymen.
