Whether it’s vaccinations, physical activity or checkups: many public health insurance companies reward their policyholders with a cash bonus for health-promoting behaviour. The offer is called a bonus program or bonus model. According to the consumer organization Geld und Verbraucher (GVI), the submission deadline for some health insurers is January 31 or March 31, 2023. “However, in our experience, people with health insurance often give away bonuses in money or expense subsidies from their health insurance company’s bonus program out of ignorance or convenience,” says GVI President Siegfried Karle. Therefore, policyholders should contact their health insurance company promptly if they have any questions about the program.
