Secure Facebook Messenger with fingerprint and face scan | NOW

Facebook now allows users to add an extra layer of security to Facebook Messenger, allowing messages to be read only when the user’s fingerprint or face is recognized. That writes Facebook in a Wednesday blogpost.

This new feature is called App Lock and can be turned on and off by users in the Messenger app’s privacy settings. If App Lock is on, Messenger is automatically locked when a user closes the app. To be able to read the messages in the Messenger app again, the user’s face or fingerprint must first be scanned.

The new feature is part of a number of improvements Facebook has made in terms of privacy. For example, Facebook has made the privacy settings clearer in a new Privacy part of the App and Facebook says that it is working on a new function that gives users more control over who can directly message or call them.

App Lock is available today on iPhones and iPads and will be released for Android users in the coming months.
