The government will double the budget allocated to training Values of the Republic and secularism
provided to associations, local elected officials and civil servants since 2015 to train 40,000 professionals per year from 2021, announced the Minister for the City on Monday 5 October.
Over four years, we have trained 50,000 people and with the doubling I would like us to train 40,000 people per year, from 2021
, said Nadia Hai after a meeting in Aubervilliers (Seine-Saint-Denis) with trainers and beneficiaries of the training.
From 1.5 million, the allocated budget will increase to 3 million euros per year.
“Civil servants, employees and volunteers” first
Created in particular by the observatory of secularism, this training primarily targets civil servants, employees and volunteers
especially those in direct contact with children and young people from sensitive areas, local elected officials, or caretakers of equipment or buildings.
Secularism is widely seen as being a restriction of freedoms and as being almost an aggression, but in reality it is a principle that ensures respect for the freedom of belief or non-belief
, and this training module reminds us of the very definition of secularism, its origin, we retrace the history of secularism
.
Work on “misunderstandings and amalgams”
Concretely, this training which is spread over several days consists of legal and historical reminders on the law of 1905, useful and welcomed by the trainers present during the meeting. They underlined in particular the importance of working on misunderstandings and amalgams
around questions of secularism.
Nadia Hai’s announcement comes three days after Emmanuel Macron’s speech on separatism
, received with caution by several associative actors.
