Sectur anticipates spilling 42 million pesos on long bridge for tourist services

Mexico City. During the long weekend from November 15 to 18, the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) anticipates an economic impact of 42,490 million pesos from the consumption of tourist services, which will represent an increase of 4.8 percent compared to what recorded on the same bridge last year.

Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, head of Sectur, estimated that hotel occupancy will be at a level of 70.1 percent, which will be an increase of 0.7 percentage points compared to what was reported in the same period of 2023.

For this long weekend, he anticipated that three million 88 thousand tourists will travel, of which one million 72 thousand will arrive at hotels, which would mean a year-on-year growth of 1.1 percent; while two million 16 thousand will stay in another form of accommodation, such as visiting family and friends, or in second homes.

The head of Sectur pointed out that the economic benefit from lodging will be in the amount of three thousand 399 million pesos, which will imply an increase of 6.1 percent compared to the same long weekend in 2023.

Projections indicate that in Cancún occupancy will be 86.4 percent; in Riviera Maya 85.7 percent; in Puerto Vallarta 81.9 percent; in Los Cabos 80.7 percent, and in Nuevo Nayarit 80.4 percent.

Rodríguez Zamora added that this period coincides with the Buen Fin, in whose 2024 edition it is estimated that sales in the commerce sector will reach 165.5 billion pesos, 10.3 percent more than in 2023, with the participation of 190 thousand registered companies.

“This long November bridge and the Buen Fin consolidate their relevance in the country’s tourist and commercial economy, promoting the movement of national and international visitors, generating jobs and strengthening consumption in the various regions of Mexico,” he added in a statement.
