Secretary of State is mistaken: after all, no compensation for taking Ukrainians home

“There is a confusion of tongues,” says a spokesman for Van der Burg when asked. “It is not true that people who take in a Ukrainian get an expense allowance.”

Earlier, the secretary of state said that people will get money if they take in a Ukrainian, as can be seen in this video:

Living money

Ukrainian refugees who end up in the Netherlands can take living allowance into account as long as they are in our country. Refugees can decide for themselves whether they want to keep the living allowance or give it to the family where they live.

The most involved ministers will continue to discuss the amount tomorrow in the cabinet’s special crisis meeting, which is now weekly.

Thousands of Ukrainians

This morning there were 7200 Ukrainians registered in the Netherlands. There are expected to be more, because not everyone has registered yet.

Municipalities have so far freed up about 21,000 reception places for refugees from Ukraine. That should increase to 50,000 places in the short term.
