SEOUL, 04 Dec. (Yonhap) – Commerce Minister Ahn Duk-geun will visit the United States for talks on the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) that bars tax credits on EVs assembled outside North America, he said Sunday the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy.
Ahn is planning meetings with US Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai, the president’s top adviser on clean energy innovation and implementation John Podesta, and US lawmakers during her five-day visit from Monday, according to the ministry.
Ahn’s stay comes days after South Korea sent a second official notice to Washington over the weekend on tax benefits for hydrogen and clean fuel production and green commercial cars.
South Korea sent its first official notice on electric vehicles and related industries last month.
The IRA, signed by US President Joe Biden in August, offers up to $7,500 in tax credits to buyers of assembled EVs in North America alone, raising concerns about its impact on sales of major South Korean automakers.
