TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Secretary General of the National Mandate Party Eddy Soeparno did not deny the news about the joining of the former Menkopolhukam General (Retired) Wiranto to his party. The news that the former general chairman of the Hanura Party joined PAN has been widely heard since last Thursday.
“First, I don’t deny this. But the confirmation, legitimacy, and what the role and function will be, I think let the general chairman convey it clearly,” said Eddy when met at Harlah PPP at ICE BSD Tangerang, Friday, 17 February 2023.
Eddy said that the official announcement of Wiranto’s joining would be made on 26-28 February 2023. Within that timeframe, PAN will hold National Election Winning Coordination Meeting in Semarang, Central Java.
“Later we will also introduce the new PAN candidates, including the figures who have joined PAN,” said Eddy.
When journalists tried to dig deeper into the matter that the figure who would join was a retired TNI officer and former chairman of a political party, Eddy was reluctant to reveal it. However, Eddy said that if Wiranto really joins PAN, his party is not worried that his presence will disrupt the party’s work rhythm.
“His personality, his experience as a party figure, has a great track record, leadership experience. I think it is one of the important values for any party to be able to learn from him to accommodate what is his experience,” said Eddy.
Hanura Appreciates Wiranto’s Decision to Move to PAN
Hanura Party DPP chairman Inas Nasrullah Zubir respects Wiranto’s choice and decision to move to PAN. Because, he said, the constitution gives the right to determine each political choice.
Nevertheless, as a Hanura cadre who had been raised by Wiranto, Inas felt that she had lost a great figure. He called the former TNI Commander a figure who contributed to founding the Hanura Party and giving birth to members of the Council.
“If not, maybe I myself never sat in parliament in the past term,” said Inas when contacted, Thursday, February 16, 2023.
Inas said the man who had also occupied a number of ministerial seats was not only a political figure, but a statesman whose experience had been poor. The reason is, Wiranto has been in government since the New Order regime until now by serving as Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council.
“It was extraordinary luck for PAN when Mr Wiranto selling the anchor to anchor in the party made by Zulkifli Hasan, because it will add to the political strength of PAN,” he said.
