When two former teammates put their know-how and their aura at the service of their old team, which they are now responsible for. Chelsea coach Frank Lampard and former Blues goalkeeper Petr Cech, who has returned as a technical adviser, worked behind the scenes to convince Timo Werner to join them.
The transfer of the German, which could be formalized soon, announced close to its conclusion in recent days, would have actually happened three months ago. The Telegraph indeed evokes a “secret journey” of Petr Cech and Frank Lampard in Germany, just before the confinement imposed in England due to the coronavirus.
Liverpool had made it a priority
The two men are said to have met Timo Werner there to present their vision of the job and explain how he could best integrate into the team. The fluency in German of Petr Cech would also have played a key role in the dealings with the agent and the father of the 24-year-old. Convinced by the presentation of this plan designed for him, Timo Werner would then have made his decision in favor of Chelsea.
Designated earlier this year as Liverpool’s top recruiting priority, Timo Werner was also coveted by Manchester United. But it is at Chelsea that he should continue his career. An announcement from him could take place next week. Second in the German championship behind Pole Robert Lewandowski, the international scored 25 goals with his club in the Bundesliga.
