Officially, there is still silence about the catch-up date for the Munich Security Conference. But a secret plan has leaked through the police union, it refers to Munich Airport.
Munich – The Bavarian Police Union (GdP) is now rushing forward – out of concern for the police officers who are already working at the overload limit in the corona pandemic *. According to the police, the Siko will take place from June 10 to 12, 2021 at Munich Airport * – not just virtually, but with real world political figures. In February there was only one digital event called “Road to Munich 2021”.
Munich: Siko plans encounter incomprehension among the police union
The Siko planning encountered great incomprehension at GdP Bavaria. It is “incomprehensible why a personal meeting of representatives from all over the world should now take place at Munich Airport,” said state chairman Peter Pytlik. In an interview with our newspaper he made it clear that the demonstrations to be expected against the “controversial event” in particular represent a huge challenge for the police. “While basic rights are drastically restricted for the citizens, the political leadership, including business leaders, allow themselves what would otherwise forbid the population, namely to meet, exchange ideas and seek personal contact,” said the trade unionist. Such “special treatments” in the tense Corona situation would further fuel displeasure in the population, fears Pytlik.
The security conference in the Bayerischer Hof had to be canceled this year due to the pandemic, Siko boss Wolfgang Ischinger moderated a virtual format. There is now a conference at the airport in June.

In addition to the decision to possibly allow spectators at European Championship soccer games in Munich, other “unnecessary situations that would bring the police to the border” would be created.
The GdP is therefore calling for Siko to be postponed and for no spectators to be allowed at the EM. The European football association UEFA had initially insisted on a spectator guarantee for the host cities – Mayor Dieter Reiter did not want to give this up until the end. On June 15, the German team will face world champions France in the Allianz Arena. The preferred scenario envisages 14,500 viewers.

The Siko team confirms: Yes, the possibility of an airport Siko has been thoroughly discussed. There is a time window from mid-June to mid-July in which the terminal could theoretically be used, say those in the know. There are also considerations with the fair. The top priority, however, is caution, you will not take any virological risks and strictly adhere to all the rules.
The security conference officially announced that it has been “exploring various scenarios for months in order to hold a small face-to-face event as soon as the pandemic conditions allow it again”. Because of the confusing situation, however, “no decision is currently foreseeable”.
