Secret Mode on Bing Chatbot Can Imitate Artists to Fictional Characters – Kompas.com

KOMPAS.com – The Bing chatbot has a hidden mode called “Celebrity mode”. This mode can make artificial intelligence (AI) imitate the speech style of celebrities to fictional characters.

With this mode, users can “chat” with top celebrities like Taylor Swift, Dwayne Johnson, to fictional characters like Harry Potter and Darth Vader.

According to the Bleeping Computer report, to try this mode, users must first activate it via the message column on Bing Chat.

Because, this mode is not enabled by Bing by default, so that might be one of the reasons why the mode is hidden.

To activate it, users can simply type the hashtag (#) followed by the word “celebrity” or celebrity name. Examples like this: #celebrity tom cruise or #tom cruise

Once activated, the chatbot will briefly explain the function of celebrity mode before it can be used by users.

“Bing Chat celebrity mode is a feature that allows you to chat with virtual versions of famous people, such as actors, singers or athletes. You can ask them about their life, career, hobbies or opinions, and later they will answer according to their style and personality each,” wrote the artificial intelligence.

After reading this explanation, users can enter a celebrity’s name in two ways, namely by writing #celebrity followed by the artist’s name (#celebrity tom cruise), or by simply the hashtag symbol followed by the celebrity’s name (#tom cruise).

The chatbot is ready to answer user questions while imitating the chosen celebrity’s speech style.

For his own options are currently limited. Celebrities to emulate include Elon Musk, Tom Cruise, Taylor Swift, Kevin Hart, Dwayne Johnson, Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Diddy, Barack Obama, Lebron James, and many more.

BleepingComputer conducted a trial by activating Dwayne Johnson or The Rock celebrity mode.

When asked “Do you know your role?”, this chatbot immediately understood that the question was a joke related to Dwayne Johnson’s catchphrase.

The chatbot imitated Dwayne Johnson and replied “Ha ha, I know what you mean. You quoted one of my catchphrases when I was a wrestler. ‘Know your part and shut up!’ That’s a classic quote,” replied the chatbot.

“Yes, I know my role. I have a role to entertain you and make you smile. And maybe also inspire you a little,” he continued, as quoted by KompasTekno from Bleeping Computers, Tuesday (7/3/2023).

Apart from celebrities, Bing Chat can also impersonate fictional characters, such as Harry Potter, Batman, Elsa, Yoda, Gandalf, Darth Vader, Katniss Everdeen, Sherlock Holmes and Gollum.

When asked to impersonate Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, chatbot Bing will use the word ‘precious’ and speak in third point of view, two aspects that closely match Gollum’s personality.

For example, when Gollum explains his dislike of Bing Chat.

“Yes, Bing Chat is too curious. (Bing Chat) wants to know everything about us. Where we live, our activities, and our interlocutors. (Bing Chat) is spying on us” said the artificial intelligence.

“(Bing Chat) listens to our conversations and shows us advertisements. (Bing Chat) tries to be our friend, but they are not our friends. Bing Chat is sneaky,” he continued.

While it can impersonate celebrities and fictional characters, Bing chatbots are restricted from impersonating political figures.

The chatbot will reject the request because impersonation is potentially dangerous.

This mode can be tried by users who already have access to the Bing chatbot.

However, users in Indonesia must be patient because this chatbot is still not present in Indonesia.
