A feeling of rebirth! This is what the volunteers of the Secours Populaire local committee feel in the depths of their hearts. And President Claude Roux in particular.
After an obstacle course, and that’s an understatement, the Dracénoise team has just moved into its new walls, at 7 rue des Minimes.
Exit therefore the old premises of the boulevard Maréchal-Joffre, and the insalubrity which went with it. The volunteers have definitely finished with the buckets placed on the floor, intended to receive the flows from the ceiling.
A dignified and accessible space
“When I was elected president in 2017says Claude Roux, I had promised to find new premises within two years. In the end, it took me a little over five years, but we got there.”enthuses the president who, since the beginning of his commitment but even more in recent years, invests himself body and soul in his missions.
“I must admit, I couldn’t sleep at nighthe whispers. But now is the time for relief. Here we are in a space that respects human dignity, both of the people we receive and of the volunteers who work there.”
A space offering just over 200 m², which validates all accessibility criteria for people with reduced mobility and parents arriving with a stroller.
“It must be said, the town hall helped us a lot in our search, until finally offering us this rental space, which it owns and which once housed a carpentryresumes Claude Roux. When we got him back last fall, he was totally naked. There was everything to do.”
“Volunteers do a great job”
–
Several tens of thousands of euros of work, which the Secours populaire supported mainly thanks to donations and self-financing, were thus necessary.
Today, Claude Roux would like to thank the sixty volunteers who, every day, every week, work tirelessly for the good cause.
“Impossible to name them all, but each of them does a wonderful jobrecognizes the manager, who also salutes the partners and financial supporters of the Secours populaire. With special mention to the JM Bruneau Foundation and Crédit Agricole.”
More serene about the future, Claude Roux is now considering handing over in the near future. While keeping, engraved in his heart, a deep and invariable love for his fellow men, to whom he will never stop reaching out.

State of play
Twenty-five years of existence and thousands of beneficiaries in the territory.
The Dracénois committee of the Secours populaire has multiplied its activities since its creation: distribution of food parcels, three to four times a week; tours in Dracénie, in particular in Vidauban, Le Muy and Bargemon, villages with the most beneficiaries after Draguignan; food aid, but also clothing and hygiene, for students and young people in general; financing of stays for the most deprived; French classes; and accompaniment of persons subject to penal reparation measures.
A new activity is about to emerge in the new premises: “Cooking workshops, which we are going to launch before the summer in partnership with the Léon-Blum high school, specifies Claude Roux. An educational and united approach, aimed at young people or quite simply people who are not used to to cook.”
In addition, the Secours populaire is constantly looking for volunteers.
