Jakarta –
A woman with the initials EE (25) was arrested by police for hitting a female police officer (policewoman). The incident occurred when a mass of Prima Party supporters were demonstrating in front of the building KPU extension.
The seconds EE hit the policewoman were recorded by her cell phone camera and the video is circulating on social media and online chat applications.
The moment began when Prima Party sympathizers wanted to break through the fence to force their way into the building area of the KPU.
“One person has been arrested. He is currently being interrogated at the Regional Police Headquarters,” Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Kombes Komarudin said when contacted on Wednesday (14/12/2022).
From the video it appears that the incident started when the crowd pushed towards the fence. At that time, policewomen were deployed to handle Prima Party sympathizers who were about to join the KPU.
The woman sympathizer of the First Party then pushed the policewoman. It can be seen from the video that EE got into a fight with a policewoman before finally hitting her with his right hand.
Subsequently, EE was seen withdrawing from the front row of Prima Party female sympathizers who were still trying to fight their way to the KPU entrance. Meanwhile the policewoman, victim of the beating, pointed to EE, who had started to disappear from the crowd.
Komarudin said the beating came after a Prima Party crowd held a demonstration in front of the KPU building since this afternoon.
“Our negotiating team made a humane appeal, but they persisted and there was a beating from one of the masses on behalf of the party to our negotiating team,” Komarudin explained.
The perpetrator of the beating with the initials EE was then taken by the local police and interrogated in Polda Metro Jaya.
