Seconds Iran Governor Slapped During Speech

The governor who slapped was a member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEHRAN — A governor Iran who had just been elected was slapped by his fellow Iranian Revolutionary Guards while giving a speech at the inauguration ceremony, Saturday (23/10). The slapping incident was clearly captured in a video shared by state media.

“The perpetrator attacked Abedin Khorram, the new governor of the eastern province of Azerbaijan due to personal matters, the news agency said IRNA, as reported Al Arabiya.

IRNA also confirmed that the perpetrator was a member of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. In the footage, a man wearing a suit and tie takes the stage while Khorram is giving a speech.

Without further ado the man approached and slapped Khorram from the left side of the stage. The assailant pushed Khorram away, before being arrested by other members and taken out of the room.

Khorram, who is also the commander of the IRGC, told state television that he did not know about the perpetrators of the attack. But he had forgiven her. But prosecutors in Tabriz have requested that the incident be investigated.

Khorram is known to be an IRGC commander who was held hostage by the Syrian opposition during the early days of the conflict. He was released in 2013 along with 47 other Iranians in exchange for the release of 2,130 Syrian regime prisoners.
