Secondary schools will also close the week before Christmas

Secondary schools have the opportunity to arrange everything properly on Monday 20 and – if it is really necessary – Tuesday 21 December. Taking into account the usual safety measures (1.5 meters away, mouth caps, etc.), they can still let students come to school to make appointments, take school exams, have mentor conversations, or whatever is necessary. As soon as possible, but no later than Wednesday, December 22, there will be no more students at school, except for the exception categories mentioned above. School exams can take place. Distance learning may of course be set up for all students, but that is the choice of the schools themselves.

This school closure will in any case apply until Sunday 9 January, the end of the Christmas holidays. How it will continue after the Christmas holidays, from January 10, is still uncertain. The developments are almost impossible to predict, but the government would nevertheless prefer primary and secondary education to reopen after the Christmas holidays. The intention is to take a decision in the cabinet on Monday 3 January on the basis of an analysis of the information available at that time. It is also possible that schools will be asked to provide online education after the Christmas holidays.
