Second win of the season is still a long time coming

Another narrow defeat | October 28, 2024

Rugby TV Thun suffered another narrow defeat against second-placed RC Würenlos. The team lost 22:25 away at the Ländli sports facility.

The Thun team, playing in yellow and green, started the game strongly. Philipp Schnyder’s own kick-off was immediately caught, allowing the guests to put early pressure on the opposition’s half. With two penalties converted by fly half Antonio Branquinho, the team took a 6-0 lead, writes Rugby TV Thun in a media release.

The defense of both teams was stable, and due to the poor field conditions the game was slow, characterized by a lot of kicks and few line breaks. Thun was able to keep the lead at 9:6 until shortly before halftime. But some indiscipline and numerous fouls led to a yellow card for Remo Zurbuchen, which gave the Aargauers a power play. They scored a try before the break and turned the score to 13:9.

Even after the break, Würenlos cleverly exploited their superiority and put Thun under pressure. Thun’s defense seemed disorganized and was unable to prevent the second try, which meant the team fell behind 9:18. Once again, however, the Oberlanders showed a strong reaction. After losing the ball, Lukas Steiner reacted quickly and Würenlos’ defensive line was outwitted for the first time. Center Mike Koller shortened the score to 16:18 with an attempt on the right side.

Captivating final phase

Thun were now back in the game and were even able to take the lead a few minutes later with another penalty. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on Thun’s side today either. First, the home team once again caught the Oberlanders’ disorganized defense cold and took the lead back. The Thuners were then denied two attempts. Despite the fighting spirit, another penalty alone wasn’t enough to turn the game around.

Rugby TV Thun lost again bitterly and narrowly at 22:25, but secured an important “losing bonus point”. After a week’s break, the team will face RC Morges at home and is looking for its second win of the season.
