Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Chinese President Xi Jinping has issued a warning to the West. He insisted that he would take “all necessary measures” against “outside power interference” in the Taiwan issue.
He said this in a speech on Sunday, in the middle of the five-year meeting of the 20th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. For China, Taiwan is its territory and is urging reunification.
“We will continue to fight for peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity and best efforts,” Xi said in Chinese, according to the official translation cited. CNBC InternationalMonday (10/17/2022).

“But we will never promise to abandon the use of force (weapons). And we have the ability to take all necessary measures,” he stressed.
“This is directed solely at the interference of outside forces and some separatists seeking Taiwan independence,” he added.
Tensions around Taiwan have increased following the controversial visit by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the island last month. The visit came despite warnings from China that the island should not be entitled to foreign relations.
The United States recognizes Beijing as China’s only official government, while maintaining unofficial ties with Taiwan. Angry China held a massive military exercise and launched missiles into the sea.
Previously, the Chinese Communist Party Congress was believed to be the seat of Xi’s inauguration as president for a third term. In 2018, China removed the limit of two presidential terms.
The protests ask Xi Jinping to leave
Meanwhile, protests against Xi and his Covid-19 policies emerged last weekend. Xi’s government is called authoritarian and Xi’s leadership is expected to step down soon.
Several Twitter accounts also shared a number of sightings of the protest. Banners hung on a bridge over a downtown highway with the black smoke of burning goods beside it.
The protest reads “Say no to Covid tests. Yes to food. No to lockdown. Yes to freedom. No to lies. Yes to dignity. No to cultural revolution. Yes to reforms. No to great leaders. Yes to voting. Don’t be slave. Be a citizen. “
Another caption means “Go ahead. Get rid of the national dictator and traitor, Xi Jinping”.
Quoted by AFP As a result of these protests, China’s online censorship has been severe. Weibo, a Twitter-like platform, has omitted a number of keywords including “Beijing”, “Haidian”, “Warrior”, “Brave Man” and “Courage”.
