Second suspect arrested at Zaans Museum art robbery | Inland

In September, a 49-year-old Amsterdammer already reported himself to the police. This Henk B. is still incarcerated. On August 15 last year, two men tried to steal a work by Monet, De Voorzaan and de Westerhem, but they were unable to do so. The Zaans Museum bought the famous painting in 2016 for 1.16 million euros and considers it a masterpiece from the collection.

The attempted robbery took place at 10:30 a.m. in front of visitors, but failed due to heroic actions by visitors and staff. One of the suspects also fired a shot during the robbery. No one was injured as a result. The two perpetrators left without loot on a scooter, which was found later that morning on the Zuiderweg in Wijdewormer.

B. had to appear in court in Alkmaar last week during an introductory session. The court decided to extend his pre-trial detention. It is not the first time that B. struck in a museum. In 2002 he and Octave D. stole two paintings from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The works surfaced in Italy at the end of September 2016 during an investigation into the mafia in Naples. In 2005, B. was sentenced on appeal to three years and two months in prison for this art theft.
