Second shot still possible after allergic reaction

Last month, a process was started in which these people can report to an allergist in the hospital for vaccination. “100 percent of all vaccinations that we have done since then have gone well. That is special to say,” said Maurits van Maaren, chairman of the NVvAKI. Several thousand people have already registered.

Tension Complaints

In most cases, there is no evidence of an allergy at all. “Many complaints that are described also fit with tension complaints. A feeling of a lump in the throat or an increased heart rate, for example.” After the consultation with the allergist, these people could still report to the GGD for the second shot.

Only a small part of the patients turns out to be really allergic after a test. “Nevertheless, we can safely vaccinate these people in the hospital,” says Van Maaren. “We have not seen any life-threatening allergic reactions to date.”

call

According to the GGD, there are approximately 11,000 Dutch people who had an (allergic) reaction after the first corona vaccination. Often these people canceled their second appointment themselves, after which they were entered in the system with the comment ‘care program not completed due to medical reason’. All these people have now received a call from the GGD to report to the general practitioner or allergist.

“The immunity built up with the first injection has not disappeared, so you can count on it that you are well protected again after the second injection, even if there was a bit more time in between,” says Van Maaren.
