Second shipment of covid vaccines for children arrives in Mexico

Mexico. The second shipment of Pfizer vaccines arrived this morning at the Mexico City International Airport; With these doses, the immunization of children aged 5 to 11 years against covid-19 will begin.

The batch consists of one million 200 thousand doses that are added to the 804 thousand received yesterday at the same air terminal and which will be administered to this group of the population starting Monday when immunization begins for minors.

The flight arrived at 5:55 a.m. at AICM Terminal 1 from Cincinnati, United States. 48 elements of the Army participated in the arrival, transfer and security of the vaccines, reported the Ministry of Health.

Biological and Reactive Laboratories of Mexico (Birmex) will be in charge of the distribution of the vaccines throughout the country.

The Mexican government made a contract with the American pharmaceutical company for the acquisition of a total of eight million vaccines.

Yesterday the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell, announced that as of Monday, June 27, the vaccination phase for children between 5 and 11 years of age would start, for which the registry was opened on June 15.

The vaccine that will be administered will be Pfizer’s, which consists of two doses for the complete schedule, and its concentration is lower than that administered to adults, since it is the one recommended for children.
